It’s Alive!!! Yes you too can now get in line for the new (I believe mostly untested) H1N1 Flu Nasal Vaccine. Here’s the rub – it contains “LIVE” H1N1, although hey, they say it’s a “mild” version. One of many articles here.

By the definition of viruses and how they work – how can you have a mild version? Furthermore, how is it this is the first time I have heard that there was a mild version.

Now let us play devil’s advocate for a moment: Nurse Evile, a person who is supposed to administer said nasal spray, breaks up with her stupid boyfriend who works at Starbucks. What does she do? She packs up several of these nice little delivery mechanisms, cruises down to her local Buckies and sprays a few people.

Yeah I know “But Thraxxus, that is ridiculous!”

    Yes, yes is it.

I’m curious why they chose to use a live form vs the usual dead/dormant form. And yes, “mild” is a strange claim. How can they guarantee that it will stay that way?

I can’t remember any recent vaccines using a live form of whatever virus, etc. it is meant to prevent… I want to say they had an oral polio vaccine that was live back in the early 80’s though.
