ok… i see both sides of this bebate.
my choice (as a father to young children) is to vaccinate. this is a decision made from a basis of statistical relevance within a typical risk/benefit model. not to deflect this issue but to add some dimension… has anyone here actually looked into the chemical ingredients of a twinkie (the golden sponge cake w/ creme filling)? it utilizes chemicals with common applications found in pesticides and the construction industry! i say we need to begin thinking about the potential conspiracy involved with this seemingly benign snack that every kid in the u.s. is given (almost like a rite of passage).
here is something to consider in the event of a strong pandemic, regardless of virus or bacteria type. if you and your family refuse vaccination, by attributes of survival theory applied to a populace (regardless of which nation you live within), you (and your children) will be: 1) placed under compulsory isolation 2) disallowed access to food and water rationing 3) de-prioritized or expelled from access to public medicine (hospitals, ERs, etc.).
this isn’t a conspirator’s list to taking your rights away. this is an epidemiologically-based plan that has been used in varying degrees since pre-historic times. in fact, most mammals prescribe to this “quarantine” behavior.
so… if the “BIG ONE” hits… give me the damn vaccination, for it is what society has deemed the price of entry to support elements that increase the probability for the survival of my family.

Borrowing a phrase from caravaggio… My choice as a mother to young children is to NOT VACCINATE. I have never had a flu shot of any kind, and my children have never had one. Their record of success seems spotty at best. My grandmother used to get one every year and finally gave up this year because she ends up getting the flu almost every year despite it! This woman is ridiculously healthy BTW, and definitely not the only person I’m aware of that has had this happen. Don’t get me wrong, my children do have most of their required vaccinations, but these are the ones with YEARS of study and use behind them and are also Thimerosal free. My pediatrician refuses to use anything with Thimerosal… I am rather surprised that anyone is still trying to make the argument that it is safe.
In regards to statistics… Wouldn’t it be safe to say that 50% of statistics are made up? Anyone can make a statistic.
I’d also like to share the fact that I have NEVER, EVER fed my children a Twinkie.
You could just inject a twinkie into them!

Friends of BB: I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it! (OK, i won’t actually lend my life over it… but i can deliver one heck of a verbal barb in your defense when provoked and possibly even spit on someone’s shoe).
However! as human beings we learn through a temporal difference model… which is to say that a thing becomes clearer upon experiencing said thing.
in reference to my diatribe above in combination with historical archives of actual past epidemics, i dare state that it only takes you to experience your neighbor go into hypovolemic shock through bleeding out of every orifice while their toddler’s observe this painful, horrific event as the children scream “mommy” and/or “daddy” for it to change your cumulative mindset as it currently stands with vaccinations against pandemia.
whether that means protect yourself against something as seemingly benign as the seasonal influenza pandemic or a future spread of one of the particularly nasty viral hemorrhagic fevers, such as the one i described in my narrative above, only the temporal difference model will make it so.
my grandmother once shared with me her mother’s diary (my great grandmother’s)written during the 1918 flu outbreak. her writings described a young lady neighbor frantically going door-to-door while holding her lifeless daughter. she was pleading for anyone to allow her to place her dead little girl in someone’s basement so as not to be forced to set her out on the street curb like all of the other dead people infected with the “spanish flu”. of note, the authorities had been caught off-guard and the coroner of most cities where swamped in dead bodies. so much so that the government was forcing people to set out their dead family members on the street (yes, like garbage) for mass collection.
my great grandmother described the agony of wanting to help this young mother but she was told not to open the door because “the virus still lives in those who no longer breathe” and she didn’t want to expose her two children to this horrible thing.
temporal difference… let’s hope you don’t become “clearer” with this particular “thing”.
My problem is vaccines in general. My problem are these two vaccines: The Influenza and H1N1 – more the H1N1.
My wife has taken the influenza vaccine several times, and my son has had it – my issue with it is how often people get sick from it.
My issue with the H1N1 vaccine is again how many laws, understandings, and directions are being ignored or side stepped to get people to take it. Again I worked in the pharmaceutical industry and thus I have some understanding of what it takes to get ANYTHING signed off on for delivery to the populace – it is that reason why drugs are so expensive according to drug companies to begin with.
So if that is the case ask yourself how the H1N1 vaccine got to market so quickly, and why it is allowed to have substances in it that other vaccines are not?

I live with impending death on a daily basis with one of my sons. He has fluids of all types coming out of him constantly, more holes than he should have in his frail body, and they come and go and “modern medicine” can do absolutely jack shit about it. My wife and I know more about medical matters than most medical students, and have to advocate for and against treatments for him on a continual basis. Our second home is the hospital, and we do our homework.
I’ve seen the inserts for the vaccines being pumped out “drug pusher” style on the world. I believe there are some vaccines that have been helpful, and I do not approach anything with a closed mind. However, to take this crap they are putting out now is akin to playing Russian Roulette with a 9mm semi-auto.
Again though, it is just our choice and self quarantine is indeed, and should always be, everyone’s right.

thrax… i’ve a lifelong friend who works at USAMRMC as a senior (rank of major) microbiologist who personally admits to this being “scary” and the timing “unusual” but who truly denies evil-doing by them (speaking on behalf of the 1997 team). plus if any (true) comment associated with their “formula” was included within a patent application it would have been considered a high-security leak and that document and all associated copies would be seized. she also stated that the adjuvant-based multi-agent vaccine had been in the pipeline for years as a reflexive budget addition after 9/11 and the anthrax scare – when the media fixated on an impending bio-terrorist act.
they mention the similarity between this recombinant virus and the one from 1918. so if i take nbGazette at face value… novartis was gonna f’ing unleash an uncontrollable time bomb and hope it didn’t mutate in nature faster than they could produce vaccine!! if this is the case, the company would make their quarterly numbers but then i’d advise short-selling them because their market would be dead, literally.

As I said before I find most of this a bit disturbing from timing as well message. I have looked at the numbers on the flu and H1N1. We have never pushed the basic flu shot this much. H1N1, with less fatality rate, is being pushed very hard – and many concessions have been made in its development and release.
I just figure if the government can fake something like the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which they now admit, what else are they capable of? Like I said I worked in pharm and know what it takes to get something released – roughly 10-12 years of testing, much of that on humans. Unless things have changed, what happened to that time on this vaccine?
