The RealNews network did an interview of one Chris Hedges, his bio I have supplied below. His credentials are pretty good for someone making the statements he makes. I agree with almost everything he says minus the phrase “Liberal Class” which to me makes next to no sense. Perhaps I am an idiot though. the interview is well worth watching. I do like how quickly he sums up the events that have happened in recent times that are not very Joe American Citizen oriented. I really enjoyed how he said that Obama was a brand.
“Chris Hedges, whose column is published Mondays on Truthdig, spent nearly two decades as a foreign correspondent in Central America, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans. He has reported from more than 50 countries and has worked for The Christian Science Monitor, National Public Radio, The Dallas Morning News and The New York Times, for which he was a foreign correspondent for 15 years. He has written nine books, including “Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle” (2009), “I Don’t Believe in Atheists” (2008) and the best-selling “American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America” (2008). His book “War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning” (2003) was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction.”

This is really a re-living of past history. The reach of corporate control is on par with the reach of the old monarchies of Europe of days gone by.
Yes, this guy seems credible and intelligent. But he has also hitched his wagon to the “sky is falling” theme of media vomit. The “end of the American Dynasty”, the “Death of the Liberal Class”, etc. In fact if you read his book list, he basically hates everything and everything is bad – even at the expense of not having a linear philosophy in which to follow. One of the largest ironic elements of his talk is when he laments the death of liberalism as a conduit for change, yet his past publishings indicate that (almost all) change is threatening.

I haven’t read his stuff. Do you agree/disagree with his rather 30,000 foot view of the recent changes in america?
I still liken what is going on right now to that of Ancient Rome.
Ancient Rome is a good model from a more abstract basis.
If possible, I would elect to agree with him 35%. Yes the problems he defines are tangible problems. Is the end nigh? Please.
Where is the Great Depression that these freaky negative “real news” people have been screaming about?
Where is the crash in the commercial real estate sector?
Where are the jackbooted gov’t thugs busting down my door to take away my guns?
Where are the United Nation’s blue-beret squads patrolling the streets of American Cities?
Where is the single one-world currency?
Where is the expected round-up and cleansing of “80% of the world’s population”?
Where is there solid scientific proof of “chem-trails” coming from the exhaust of airliners? (Some of this particular media ilk reported that this was “mind control” chemicals)
Where are the legions of zombies caused by a flu conspiracy with the Vaccination/Drug companies?
Why isn’t there a full demographic population representing an entire generation of autistic children caused by inoculations?
Where is the fireball that was going to wipe-out Western Florida from the outgassing of Deep Horizon?
Where are the dead bodies in Southern Louisiana from asphyxiation on dispersant aerosols?
Caravaggio is focused on living for today while attempting to secure a future for his children. Yes, we, as humans, face unprecedented challenges. But I refuse to live in fear. The scary boogie-man can kiss my ass.
Your response cracked me up.
It does seem that people enjoy taking a concern they have and blowing it up to a level where the sky may be falling. I have concern A and thus will tell you about A to the power of a googleplex. good job.
your invocation of the mega-number reminds me of my kid saying that “infinity was the last number”.
excellent.
