Worth a few minutes to read. Roberts has, from what I have heard and read, always weighed in on topics with a mindful eye on the facts of the situation. He has consistently left the “jumping to conclusions” out of his writing and reporting on the events that have, and continue to shape our world.

Well… it was a very succinctly written piece. However, I’m constantly reminded of this type of thinking from my daily run-ins with friends and external family members alike. It is healthy to question government as it preserves liberty. But InfoWars.com goes beyond this to denigrate everything… literally everything to make a buck. Want a T-shirt with “End the Fed” or “Socialism Sucks” – they’ve got it. Their business model has tappped into a prevailing anxiety theme shared amongst white people. As a white person, I don’t understand the group psychosis. It’s pathology baffles me.
If I were to focus intently on any subject on this planet, I could develop a plausible theory as to why it is bad for me and my family. In summation, we live in a good country during a bad time. This bad time shall come to an end. Think positively, vote responsibly, be a good citizen, and keep an open mind about everything – you are alive during a time of unprecedented longevity, resources, and general standard of living. Enjoy it.
Sigh. Yeah I almost didn’t post it simply because of the source it was posted on – which has nothing to do with his writing.
Having said that, I think I’m done as well.
Cheers all, and the best of luck.
I think with publications you often find a writer who is great on a publication that is questionable. Just how it is.
And this being the internet, putting ideas out there will always have people chime in on them. To some that is the intent, to others it is not.
btw – great piece. Tragic it is his last. I believe Ross Perot proved that point when he ran for office and showed actual facts on TV. People called him a crack pot. “Gas will reach $5 2003!” he said – borderline soothsayer on that one. What did people say? “Yoda is a crazy man!”
Sad.
I looked up some Ross Perot quotes. That man said some apeshit crazy stuff, but also has a lot of good stuff to say about business and capitalism.
“Their business model has tappped into a prevailing anxiety theme shared amongst white people. As a white person, I don’t understand the group psychosis. It’s pathology baffles me.” Another great statement, Car.
Paul Craig Roberts’ Wiki shows a thoughtful, fairly moderate expert with a lot of interesting insights.
Yeah I didn’t find this article of his to be anywhere near the realm of conspiracy theorist. He presented statements and pointed to who said or did the act. To me not a lot of jumping to conclusion. Tragically having a site that even though it may talk about some real issues typically does so in a rather fear mongering sort of way, be the presenter of this guy’s article can be default take away from it. Again, sad.
I maybe guilty of the confusing causation with correlation as it applies to Mr. Roberts. The source offering his farewell is a known extremist site so I unconsciously applied my filter heavy-handedly.
At the expense of redundancy, I still base my response (to that of Mr. Roberts and not Infowars) on the premise that if one were to look hard enough at virtually anything in this world, one could weave a discriminating theory of conspiracy. Mr. Roberts offers salient points, but neither he nor anyone has the final word. His optics of reality are just as biased as the next persons.
If Mr. Robert’s true motivation is to deviate away from business relationships, such as, InfoWars, then I believe his strategy to be very sound and very wise.
BayAreaDM – Danke!
…just caught up with the thread (subsequent to my last post.. duh!).
My interpretation of “conspiracy theorist” is applied directly to Mr. Robert’s input regarding H1NI, Global Warming, and 9/11. Regardless of your particular inclination towards these topics, his position remains outside the predominate view held by most. This isn’t to say he is lying or insane – only that his views are not widely accepted. It is critical to state that some of the groups that are accepting of Mr. Robert’s points are routinely identified (even self-identified) as Conspiracy Theorists. Thus my defining him as a conspiracy theorist must remain in place sans apology or retraction (nah nah… so there!).
Now I’ve gotta go proudly drive my 5 MPG Hummer two blocks to the store to buy large amounts of American corn-fed beef so I can grill-out on my extra-large American grill and drink Domestic beer while making fun of my neighbors who drive hybrids and innoculated their kids against a make-believe virus (did you know that one of ‘em is retarded now?). Later I plan on discussing how the hole in the side of the Pentagon didn’t look like an airplane made it but more like that of a missile or something. And damn all those Indians and Chinese with their Engineering Ph.D.s taking all the call center jobs.
… At least this is in “the neighborhood” of Mr. Robert’s line of thinking.
Sing along with me: “Won’t you be… oh won’t you be… please won’t you be… my neighbor?”
I thought quite highly of his writings and his pieces. A man cannot swim against a rip tide, so he was smart to get out.
Our country is beyond corrupt, and honesly it is the fault of Americans who allowed it to happen. But Americans want their egos stroked even if it’s on negative terms, again we don’t know what we have. Americans are stupid. Americans lost their homes/family estates and the rights to sue on behalf of their egos.
Now i’m going to put the “Save Tahoe” and “Spill Baby Spill” bumper sticker on that gas guzzing SUV next to the “Obama” sticker and go to work at the PR firm so I can encourage our sponsors to participate in worthless, economically destructive political theater featuring tired “social issues”.
It is foolish to argue with fools.
@Stunned…. welcome to the Thunderdome….
Mr. Robert is an intelligent man. But even IQ can’t alleviate for the fact that his beliefs were external to the majority. Which makes his effectiveness questionable. Therefore, his bowing-out seemed like a logical conclusion. Note: I don’t state this out of my own personal beliefs, but rather based upon socio-psychological precepts of herd mentality.
Your descriptors on American Hypocrisy were interesting and enjoyable. May I ask, are you an American? What type of vehicle do you drive? if one were to drive an SUV with right-leaning stickers, would this be more or less relevant to American Hypocrisy?
The definition of fool remains subjective and therefore can be applied without prejudice.
I’ll offer this nugget with a nod to your “Save Tahoe” barb: The entire Economy of the United States is a whole-owned subsidiary of the World’s Environment.
What say you?
