It has been mentioned before on Blinkinblogs some of the odd fascinations of the Japanese culture – a culture I actually admire for many aspects. The weirdest fascination for me is how women are viewed in Japanese media – creepy school girls. (I expect Kenfu to say something about this article as he actually lives there.) My sister, about a year ago, went to Tokyo and got to experience some of the odd aspects of the female side of the Japanese culture in media and got a we bit freaked out. In effect here is what has happened:

  1. Anime/Manga has become not just main stream, but a intergral part of the Japanese society. (cool beans – I loves me some manga!)
  2. The female form in that art style has, ummm, changed over the years to accentuate certain features of the female form in a way that is, how to be delicate here, ridiculously sexual (read- giant boobs etc)
  3. The females protrayed in Japanese media have a very unique fashion sense. I find much of it attractive, admiteddly, in very small doses – Japanese culture has in rammed down your throat – these fashions all bordering on American Fetishes – School girl, naighty nurse, etc.
  4. All of the above have somehow manifeste3d themselves into reality with one added creepyness – many of the women in Japanese Mass Media now act like cartoons – no shit. They dress like the cartoons, and in many instances, move like them. You can see interviews etc where the women randomly pose while talking.

What’s the point Thraxxus? Its hot bro!!! Not really. Fetish outfits aside for a moment ( I know right?), the media there now protrays women as not people, but walking sex machines based around the idea of obediance. No clue why. So Kotaku (cool site btw for gaming) just did a post that pointed this out in glorious fashion. I have supplied you with some video here for the game mentioned in that Kotaku piece: Senran Kagura. Note the over use of ginormous boobage.

Kenfu – let us know buddy.

  1. Kenfu says:

In Akihabara (the Electronics District in Tokyo) there are coffee shops in which Japanese girls are dressed up in maid outfits that are the waitresses. I was surprised when I went in to see girls also frequent these places. The waitress also do songs with a dance on a stage as entertainment every hour or so.

As for the manga—just like anything else– SEX SELLS!

  2. ZAMan says:

    Creepy my ass!

Although, something I find interesting is that anime/manga portrayal of females look nothing like Japanese girls.
