There is this show on BRAVO that I have seen once, while feeding my kids at 1 am, called NYC Prep that is about a bunch of ridiculously rich high school kids who live in New York City, thus the NYC. The show is an abonimation. The reason I say this is fairly obvious when you watch it – it is like looking at massive train wreck which must include no less than three bus loads of children, kittens and puppies – all fatalities. You just can’t look away. The people in it are all children of beyond comprehension wealthy people who have absolutely no concept of a difficult reality as is exampled by one scene where two of them, an 18 year old boy and his ex-girlfriend turned real friend, are discussing a T-Shirt that the girl likes when the boy says “Wow only $300 dollars. What a deal!”

My point for posting this is to have a mini rant really. If our economy is shot, unemployment has been skyrocketing, and word has it recent college grads cannot get jobs to save their lives and are living in mommy and daddy’s garage, why are we putting on television a show about high school kids who have their own Manhatten based lofts? Is it to encourage normal kids or is it to give them someone to live vicariously through? For me – I just want to tie them to my trailer hitch (if I had one) and drag them across a field of broken dreams – with any luck the idea that life can actually be difficult will rub off on them.

Apparently you can catch all the eposides on Hulu – here.
