Humans are an odd species. Most animals are born with a natural instinct to survive. Many can walk or swim when born. In addition most animals need to stay with there parents for a very limited time before becoming self sufficient (some need not spend any time with parents). Humans; however are helpless; most behavior is learned but some remnants of instinct still lives… just look at young child.
So while taking a shower this morning a thought came to me. Are the following behaviors that humans do Learned or Instinct??
- Snot Rockets
- Hawk a Loogie (yes my spelling is ok just look here)
I have to wonder when Cro-Magnon Man had a giant snot ball stuck up his nose did he just dig for gold (just like every 2 year old child on earth) or was he/she evolved enough to really shoot off a good snot rocket.
Ponder that over your morning coffee.

I thought “Snot Rockets” were now referred to as the infamous “gym teacher’s handkerchief”…who lied to me?
I am a huge snot rocket fan. I never liked blowing my nose – I ‘d hold the tissue there, blow snot, and it would stick to my lip. Maybe I just lacked the finesse to do it correctly, so I just went for the snot rocket.
The worst is when you blow a snot rocket somewhere you may not want snot to linger – like the shower or your office. The chances of that rocket being lost by you but found by someone else is very high.
I love it when I blow a SR ( we in the know call it that) in a public restroom and hit the seat. A nice hanger gift for the next poor shmoe.
