You may recall that I wrote an article the other day titled: For Our Spammers. The piece was written in a sarcastic tone – in effect I was making fun of the spam posts we receive from Search Engine Optimization (SEO) boosters, straight up sales people, wanna be hackers and the like. The irony is that since I wrote that article we have received over 30 new comments intended to show up on that article’s Comments Section whereby most of the spammers actually thanked me for the post – thinking I suppose that we were trying to help them in their endevours – we were not, and are not.
What they don’t know is that we capture their IP Addresses and add them to our auto spam list so that no matter what comments they make they are automatically tossed into the Spam Hamper – and they go on thanking us. Here are a few of my favorites:
“I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.” – same IP as half a dozen other spam messages. At least he tried to look real.
“I want to say – thank you for this” – You are welcome!
“It is the coolest site, keep so” – Yes, yes it is. Keep so what though?
And from our existential Spammer, a rather profound message – “Hope it will always be alive” of course what is he talking about? Does he hope our site will always be alive? Or has he hit something very core to what we all need to remember in the coming days that being that Hope will always be alive – as long as we don’t kill it.
