Business

According to this article Blockbuster may be going belly up soon. Unless you have been living under a rock since VHS was first invented, followed directly by the invent of the movie rental palace, you probably know that Blockbuster is the movie rental place that has been properly cornholing its userbase for the better part of 25 years, or more – really whogivesashit. If you look at the company history it really is no surprise that they are toast – why you ask? Companies that do not evolve typically go the way of Rosanne Barr’s career, that is to say they get even fatter and lazier – oh and end too.

In this case there are two major reasons that Blockbuster is taking the slow walk to the slaughter house: They suck (in other words they screw every drop of blood they can from there customer base), and they acted like video on demand and video by mail would never work. Sure Blockbuster does video by mail now, but it took them roughly 4 years to figure out that the idea was actually not a novelty act. Again, whogivesashit? I for one am thrilled that Blockbuster is going under as I hate that company with a passion. I have several friends and relatives who have all been taken to the cleaners by them and find their pathetic whinings to be music to my ears. I say Fuck em – the greedy bastards got what they deserved – Vive La Netflix!

Good points – they were the big dog for so long, they didn’t see the truck coming. Also, at one time they made anywhere from 10-40% of their profits on late fees (depending on what you read). No company has ever went broke overestimating customer laziness and forgetfulness, but if that is your primary business model then something is wrong.

Thanks for the comment. I am surprised that there might actually be people out there that could be surprised by these megalomaniacs going out of business.
