BP reportedly captured 630,000 gallons of oil yesterday! GREAT JOB BP!
Hang on a second – math time.
There are 42 gallons to a barrel – so 630,000 / 42 = 15,000 barrels.
Remember? They aren’t capturing all of it either.
What was the original stated amount per day? 5,000 barrels. But wait – if they are capturing 15,000 barrels per day now, and they aren’t getting it all? Hmmmm. Bad Math?
According to NPR “A computer program simply tracks particles and calculates how fast they are moving. Wereley put the BP video of the gusher into his computer. He made a few simple calculations and came up with an astonishing value for the rate of the oil spill: 70,000 barrels a day — much higher than the official estimate of 5,000 barrels a day.” and “This new, much larger number suggests that capturing — and cleaning up — this oil may be a much bigger challenge than anyone has let on.”
Not according to BP – they got this. Of course if we do even more math we see that NPR’s reported number of 70,000 barrels per day minus the BP captured quantity stated yesterday of 15,000 barrels means that the Gulf is gaining the benefit of greedy corporate scum to the tune of ONLY 55,000 barrels per day. Yea, BP got this alright.
Ladies and gentlemen – if you ever needed an example of combined corporate and political greed ignoring a catastrophic event for the sake of some money here it is – corruption at its finest. Good game.

Thankfully, Fascism doesn’t require good math skills.
